International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA) has been invited to participate in the GAISF general assembly and GAISF  martial arts combat sports meeting at Sportaccord 2009. Sportaccord 2009 will take place in Denver, Colorado from 23-27 March. Sportaccord was created and is owned by the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) and the Association of International Olympic Winter Federations (AIOWF). These federations hold the rights to scores of World Championships and other annual sporting events and make decisions on attributing the hosting of events to locations around the world while enlisting commercial partners for their sports. The sport of Muaythai represented by the IFMA, received mainstream recognition in 2006 with its inclusion in GAISF. The General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) groups together international sports federations. GAISF mission is to unite, support and promote its member International Sports Federations and Organizations for the co-ordination and protection of their common aims and interests, communication and co-operation, while at the same time conserving and respecting their autonomy. GAISF role consists in recognizing, assisting and representing the IFs in realms of common interest within the Olympic and Sports Movement and governmental and non-governmental bodies. Sportaccord is a 5-day gathering of 1500 leading representatives from international sport. The annual convention is held in a different country each year and encompasses the Congress and General Assemblies of over 100 international sports federations and their related associations. Its mission is to offer the sports community a powerful opportunity to come together on a global scale, in an exclusive and authoritative networking environment, to build relationships, share knowledge and develop ideas. Sportaccord is also host of the IOC Executive Board meeting. IFMA will showcase the art and sport of Muaythai with an exhibition booth which will give all the delegates the chance to learn an experience more about Muaythai through the use of a multi-media display and live demonstrations. IFMA’s participation in Sportaccord is vital in the effort to obtain recognition of Muaythai by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
