Congratulations must go out once again to our member, the Hellenic Muaythai Federation for the organisation of their second muaythai summer camp, which took place from 9th-13th of July in the Megalochori traditional village on the beautiful island of Santorini. The camp was set up on a unique and breathtaking landscape set against beautiful rocky cliffs. An enormous ring complete with heavy bags and tires were set up for fighters from all Greek muaythai camps to train and enjoy themselves under the gorgeous weather.

The tough but enjoyable training program took place 2 times each day. Participants were up at 6:30 for a 4-5 km run along the beach, followed by some shadow boxing in the water. Afternoon sessions consisted of the usual rope skipping, shadow boxing, kicking and punching the pads, focus mitts and bags and of course some good ‘ol fashioned sparring! To end the day, head coach Michalis Drosos, long time member of IFMA taught the students the art of the wai kru and focussed on fight strategy. 6-time world champion in muaythai, san shoou and boxing, Maria Avramidou was also on hand to train the athletes.

The organisers of the event have said that through this event, not only do the fighters gain knowledge of muaythai but they also learn to be a part of a team, a family, to help each other and respect the values that sport can bring to their lives.
