An interview with George Micouris

30.01.2007

Mina Club instructor George Micouris suffered an unceremonious setback to his fighting career, sustaining an injury to his right arm just in first seconds of his last match. We remind that on 4th of January 2007 George was fighting against debutant Najmeddin Al Haddad in Le Meridien Mina Seyahi hotel. This fight on War on the Shore event was a bad luck for George. He has got his arm broken as a result of unfortunate block against kick. After the fight was stopped George was taken to hospital via ambulance. Stanislav Bukhlov from Dubai Fight Academy met and interviewed George Micouris.

Dubai Fight Academy: What happened after referee Magomed Suleymanov stopped the fight due to the suspicion that you arm is broken?

George Micouris: After I broke my arm in the fight and referee stopped it, I went to Emirates Hospital to get it looked at. I had an X-ray and it was confirmed it was broken.

DFA: Did they put you in hospital?

George: Nope. The surgeon (Dr.Marrwon) gave me two options plaster or plate, I asked what will be the quickest and strongest so I can get back to training as soon as possible. Dr.Marrwon suggested plate he said there will be no cast and can start running 3 days after the operation.

DFA: So you agreed to insert a plate into your arm?

George: It was easy to choose, I had the operation the next day, started at 11 am
finished at 12 and I was home two hours later.

DFA: What is the plate made of? How long it will stay inside your arm?

George: The plate is made of titanium and they say it will be in my arm forever.

DFA: How do you feel now?

George: My arm is feeling good, two more weeks before I can use it.

DFA: Use it or punch?

George: I meant to punch, ...to strike.

DFA: Are you going to continue fighting in the ring?

George: I was feeling disappointed in the beginning but it was a lucky kick for my opponent, but I believe What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger. As soon as I get back I would love a rematch.
