Lud Fah Muay Thai with Pong Lampang Volume.2

04.05.2011
Lud Fah Muay Thai with Pong Lampang Volume.2Hello to all boxing fans. Finally we meet once again. After having rested for a long time, I am back to update you with the latest news about both muaythai and international boxing.

As for this week’s article, it has a scent of Songkran. After my trip to watch Muaythai in the outer provinces, which are the origin of muaythai, as well as in Laos and Cambodia, I must admit to being very impressed by the boxing in Laos and Cambodia.

Especially in Cambodia, from Friday to Sunday, there are boxing matches on air on many channels. Cambodian boxers have more chances to fight than before because now there are more arenas and rings for them to fight in. The boxers gain more income and make boxing their career to look after their families too.

The grade A boxers of Cambodia could easily compete with the Thai boxers who are champions in the outer provinces because their skills are equal with those of the Thai boxers. Recently, even Lakhai Jitrmuangnon, who went to fight in Phnom Penh, lost on points to a Cambodian boxer.

As for Laos boxing, the pace and style are not much different from Thai boxing. Laos boxing is considered to be in the same quality as Thai boxing except only for the quality in practice.

Now, both Cambodia and Laos are sending boxers to fight in Thailand, both to compete and to learn new techniques. In the future, it is believed that the boxers from those two countries will join the Thai programs or will call up Thai boxers to join their programs.

Even though Thailand has been going international, our neighbors are also improving and are not far behind us now. The main differences now are that the improvement of Thai boxing in Thailand is faster than in our neighboring countries and fighters can make muaythai their career in Thailand, too. This shows that Thai boxing is at the heart of Thai sports especially for people who live in the countryside.

Saenchai ShinbiMuaythai, who went to fight before the Songkran festival, was able to defeat his old rival, Liam Harrison, on points. Even though Liam lost the fight, he has a chance to make amends in his next fight scheduled for 6 May 2011 when he will fight against Bovy Sor Udomson in Lyon, France.

Next month, there will be a lot of muaythai programs in France because the Thai Fight program will start on 14 May in Cannes. And at the same day but in a different city, Abhisit KTGym will fight against Xevier Brastrad. On 21 May 2011, at the historical city of Champagne, Charlie Francois will defend his WMA title (147 pounds) against Armin Tor Prarntaksin, who just moved to Black Dragon Gym owned by Akeubon Por Muangubon from Switzerland.

For the results of the WKN Program in Perth, Australia, Nathan Corbet won his match, while Ole Or Piriyapinyo, the giant Thai boxer of 76 kilograms, also won by knock-out against Adamn Hunter Bali in the third round. Le Siam Windysport won on points against Cody Haddom (31 kilograms).

For other boxing programs this week (21 April), there were many Thai boxers who participated in the Muaythai program in Hong Kong, such as Santichai Or Boonchuay and Yordkumarn Muaythai Plaza2004.

As for the Factory Fight program of promoter Bryan To HangLam on May 31, 2011, the main match will be Saiyok Windysport Pumpanmuang versus Andre Culabil, a boxer from Belarus (68 kilograms). The comeback fight of 3 Kor Kietmonthep, who is making a living as a trainer in Hong Kong, will be against Dennis Varasa, who is also from Belarus.

Talking about Hong Kong, lately the former British colony has been crazy about muaythai – from the start of the month until the end. And for Thai Fight this July, it has been heard that the fight will move from Shanghai to Hong Kong. As for the list of Thai boxers to join this program, the staff are still gathering and adjusting the names of the boxers, and they expect to have everything settled by the end of this month.

Before we depart, I want to say thank you to the two foreign boxers who taught me about the basics of Muaythai—that the art is more important than the power. Daniel Alamoos (France) kicked the chin of his opponent, Dechsuriya Berkrerk Gym, in the fourth round at Siam Ormnorm arena, while Yusuke B Family, who was at first behind his opponent at 30-1 but in the end knocked out Zidane Chantungyang with a kick to the jaw.

It is told that the video of this fight will be posted on youtube soon to help determine whether the controversy of hitting the face or the jaw will earn him a prize or not. But that is not important. What is important is that the Muaythai camps will then use this and pass it on to the trainers to help focus on the kick, elbow and knee rather than training their boxers to use tactics such as aiming for the face or smashing the nose of the opponent, forgetting the real Muaythai tactics.

Please consider this all you Thai boxing camps and great trainers. Don’t let anyone believe that the real Muaythai art can only be seen on the opening show of the main fight.
