Czech Republic interested in including Muaythai in police and soldier training

02.06.2011
Czech Republic interested in including Muaythai in police and soldier trainingMuaythai received more international recognition recently when it was announced that the Czech Republic is interested in using Muaythai as a component of its police and soldier training after the Thai martial art has become very prominent in the Eastern European country. General Chetta “Big Wiang” Thanajaro, in his capacity as the president of the World Muaythai Council, confirmed that the WMC offers its full support for this project.

General Chetta and WMC Secretary Dr. Sakchai Tapsuwan welcomed a delegation from the Czech Republic to survey and observe Muaythai from basic to advanced levels. The visit also included a presentation and lecture by Mr. David, a Czech Muaythai teacher, at Thewet Army Club on 26 May, 2011.

Mr. David said that the objective of coming to Thailand is to ask for support from the WMC to help provide proper information and knowledge about Muaythai because at the moment in the Czech Republic, muaythai is very popular with the public. It can be seen in the many martial art centers that Muaythai training is also a firm favorite with Czechs. However, the majority of the gyms do not provide proper ways of teaching Muaythai, which can be dangerous and may cause accidents.

As a result, the delegation also included groups of top level police and soldiers to receive proper muaythai training in the hope that they will then be able to present the right training and technique of Muaythai to about 20,000 soldiers and police officers in the Czech Republic in place of wrestling, Karate and Taekwondo which is currently in their training.

Presently, there are 4 Muaythai gyms in the Czech Republic where large numbers of people who are interested in Muaythai pay for lessons and training. From now on, he is hoping that the WMC will support the construction of a proper muaythai training center or send experienced muaythai teachers to teach muaythai in the Czech Republic because there are many talented athletes who have great potential. He believes that if they receive proper training, they might also have the opportunity to travel and compete in the World Muaythai Championships as well—or even protect Czech VIPs because one of the four representatives who came to Thailand for the training is also a personal bodyguard of the Czech Republic’s current president.

General Chetta said that the WMC will provide full support in finding experienced and good trainers to deliver the proper muaythai lessons for the Czech representatives during the 2 weeks they will remain in Thailand. Also in the future, he will also find good coaches and trainers to travel to teach muaythai in Prague because a large number of soldiers and police over there are interested in learning muaythai as well.
