“Muaythai Premier League” uses 250 million baht budget to arrange boxing matches in 9 cities around the worldGeneral Chetta Thanajaro, the president of the World Muaythai Council Dr. Sakchai Tapsuwan, the chancellor of the Amateur Muaythai Association of Thailand and Clifton Brown, the director of Warrior Caste Productions Company, presided over the press conference of the “Muaythai Premier League” program whose aim is to take professional Muaythai to Hollywood. The budget used for this program is approximately 250 million Thai Baht. The press conference was arranged at Park Plaza Hotel on the 2 June, 2011.

General “Big Wiang” Chetta explained that this professional Muaythai competition is the collaborative work between the WMC, AMAS, and the Warrior Caste Productions Company as the promoters. The team agreed that they see the importance of Muaythai especially now that it has gained increased attention from people around the world.

Today, Muaythai is considered to be an effective martial art for self defense practiced by many people. There are 128 member countries who embrace and see the significance of Muaythai. They have recently allocated a budget and filmed a documentary about the life of a Muaythai boxer who has to go through obstacles and hard task in order to reach the peak of his Muaythai career life. The documentary also shows the preparation of the world competition program or “Muaythai Premier League” that will be in 9 cities around the world such as Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Beijing, Brisbane, Stockholm and Bangkok.

For the system of this program, there will be 5 sectors of competition—4 for men boxing (66 kg., 72.5 kg., 81 kg., 95 kg.) and 1 for women boxing (63.5 kg.). For each sector, there will be only 8 participants. For the first round, the boxers will be fighting every opponent in the group and collect scores. Whoever has the best score will progress to the semi-final and to the final later on. Any win by knock-out will receive 3 points, a win on points will receive 2 points, a draw is 1 point and a loss is 0 points.

For the grand prize, the winner will receive 50,000 US dollars in cash (about 1.5 million Thai Baht). The runner up will receive 12,000 US dollars in cash (about 360,000 Baht) and the third and fourth place will each receive 10,000 US dollars in cash (about 300,000 Baht). The overall budget for this program is up to about 250 million Thai Baht! The first match will be on 2 September, 2011 in Los Angeles, America and the final match, of course, will be at the origin of muaythai, Thailand.

The president of the WMC mentioned further that the boxers to join this program include Yodsanklai Fairtex (72.5 kg.), Saenchai Sinbi Muaythai (66 kg.) and Kaoklai Jockey Gym (81 kg.). The 3 boxers are well-known by many fans from all over the world.
