Sports Authority of Thailand prepared to make C-License standard boxing trainers

30.06.2011
Sports Authority of Thailand prepared to make C-License standard boxing trainersPeera Fongdawirat, vice governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand’s Sport career and privilege sector, presided over the first ever C-License training for Muaythai trainers at the National Muaythai Training Center at Muaklek district, Saraburi province.

About 60 Muaythai Trainers and registrars from all around the country came to receive this training, which is considered to be the beginning of a quality improvement initiative to promote correct and standardised Muaythai training both locally and abroad. This objective is for all trainers to teach Muaythai with the same standard and concept in order to improve the nation’s martial art and also for it to reach the international standard.

The course used in this training is the improved strategic course and the ‘take action’ course for improving Muaythai over the next 4 years (2011-2014) with the vision of “Muaythai as Thai identity, powerful to be the professional sport, reach the global standard, build up the person, income, and build the nation”. Let’s hope the training is not as confusing as the vision.

The training is controlled by a muaythai committee which has discovered that the present Muaythai trainers have been teaching the students the techniques or lessons that the trainers had personally learned and practiced before as boxers. This resulted in many different training styles and techniques with no set standard.
The trainers are former boxers. After they stopped boxing, they went on to become trainers—teaching the students what they know. Most were not eager to learn new training systems or techniques from the senor trainers, textbooks, or even the new technologies. They do not provide outside quality knowledge to teach their students.

Because of this problem, the Sports Authority of Thailand, along with the support of the government officer of Chombueng village, came up with the idea of improving and raising the standard of Muaythai to be accepted like other international sports such as Judo and Karate so that in the future Muaythai would be able to be incorporated into the international competitions and programs as well.

For this training, the curriculum used is of the C-License standard in which the training will be of performing/take action training. The course will take a total of 7 days from 24 to 30 May 2011 and will include a revision of Muaythai history, the practice of proper Muaythai, which will be taught by guest lecturers Professor Jarasdech Ulit, the director of Muaythai college (Muban Chombueng Rajabhat University); Assistant Professor Phosawat Saengsawang, the leader of Sid Pho boxing camp in Mahasarakarm province; and lastly, Professor Pranorm Amphin, the ex-trainer of Worawuth Boxing Camp.

For the training of the second group of 60 boxing trainers from 14 to 20 June 2011, the selection is still in progress by the registrar office of each province. All trainers who attend the training will receive a certificate which is also regarded as a “Muaythai trainer’s” license. It will ensure that the trainer who carries this license is a quality trainer who has reached a proper standard certified by the government. The Sports Authority of Thailand also aims to produce an A-license standard and send Muaythai teachers to present the culture and the art of Muaythai overseas as well.
