Elite Boxing Fight Club muaythai charity

23.08.2011
Elite Boxing Fight Club muaythai charityWith its state-of-the-art EB Fight Club gym scheduled to open on August 15, Elite Boxing has announced its participation in a new charity project to help underprivileged children from the Klong Toey slum area of Bangkok.

The charity was officially launched by co-founder Seth Fishman DVM, when he presented a check for 200,000 THB to Pariyakorn Ratanasuban during the co-sponsored Queen’s birthday event on August 12. It was a personal donation that was equally contributed by long friend and supporter of EB, Eric Cherry.  In an effort to expand EB’s continued support of Thai culture & heritage, the project aims not only to support the children with free food and cash incentives for educational achievements, it also instills a greater appreciation of their national heritage; by channeling their energies in a positive way through non contact training provided by EB staff.

In conjunction with World Muaythai Council Honorary President General Pichit Kullavanijaya’s Muaythai against Drugs Foundation and supported by Thailand’s only female promoter Pariyakorn Ratanasuban and local celebrity Miss Charm Osathanond, the project will support 30 underprivileged children from the Klong Toey slums.

Each Saturday morning, the children will be taken to the gym in Thong Lor where they will be given free training by experts in the traditional Thai martial art of muay boran (ancient boxing) as well as in muaythai aerobics. In addition to keeping the children fit and healthy, the aims of the project are also to keep the children off the streets and out of trouble as well as to teach them about their national heritage.

Each week, different local celebrities will also join in and help conduct the training, which is scheduled to run for three months. So far, confirmed celebrities include Sonia Couling, Matthew Dean and Tui Teerapap.

Free food will also be provided and tasks will be set for the children in order for them to earn a 100 baht bonus each week. The tasks will include assignments from the guest celebrities, such as making a drawing or writing about what they have learnt. There will also be bonus payments for children who bring proof from their schools to show that they have improved their grades or behaviour.
