Thailand VS Switzerland SuperFight: Paolo Balicha VS Bovy Sor Udomsorn

Bangkok-based muaythai promoter Elite Boxing has announced the addition of a one-off Thailand VS Switzerland superfight to the 5 already scheduled main events of the Thailand VS Challenger (2011) Series. Integrated into the fight card of the Swiss Las Vegas event in Basel on August 27, the Thailand VS Switzerland superfight will see Thailand’s Bovy Sor Udomsorn taking on Switzerland’s Paulo Balicha in what is expected to be the prelude to a full Thailand VS Switzerland event in 2012.
Following a successful Grand Opening to the TVC 2011 Series at River City Hall in Bangkok on July 23, all attention is now focused on the second event in the series as TVC gets set to return to Bangkok’s Sanam Luang for a second TVC at the Queens Cup on August 12.
However, the inclusion of the Thailand VS Switzerland superfight now means that it will be the first overseas TVC event of the 2011 Series ahead of the Thailand VS Europe event scheduled for Stuttgart in Germany on September 17.
The fight will see muaythai veteran Paulo Balicha making a comeback from injury in what is likely to be an extremely tough fight against Thai muaythai superstar Bovy Sor Udomsorn.
For Paulo, it is more than just a chance to prove that he is back to the explosive best that saw him win a hatful of titles between 1997 and 2004. It is also an opportunity to further establish himself as a respected promoter.
The Portuguese born Swiss fighter—who attended the recent Grand Opening of the TVC 2011 Series in Bangkok—is very keen to bring the TVC Series to Switzerland. Paulo explained that if there is enough interest in the superfight, he hopes that a Thailand VS Switzerland event will be added to the schedule of the TVC 2012 Series.
With such big names as Paulo and Bovy involved, interest in the fight is already high, both in Switzerland and in Thailand. And TVC promoter Elite Boxing has already given its approval to Paulo’s proposal.
Managing Director of Elite Boxing Germany, Serdar Karaca, explained that Paulo is now working with a new investor group and Elite Boxing is very confident both in Paulo’s ability as a fighter and in his skills as a promoter.
“I personally am very happy to offer my full support to Paulo,” explained Serdar. “We are looking forward to a big fight in Basel and I hope that we can schedule a full TVC event in Switzerland next year.”
