On the other hand, the popularity of muaythai is higher in Europe. Several countries allow the uses of elbows and knees with correct muaythai regulations.
However, several foreigners view the popularity of muaythai as a threat. Some of them might come up with something new to compete against Thailand’s martial art. Dr. Sakchai admitted that we cannot ignore this problem because we can’t stop foreigners from learning more and more about muaythai. They have the right to learn new things. The important thing is to be responsible in preserving muaythai and Thai culture in their original forms.
“Don’t teach that Wai Kru is not important, or that other ceremonial aspects of the sport are not useful. If one day, the foreigners are more skillful than us, at least the traditions of muaythai will still be alive. The image of muaythai is its traditions. For example, if we have muaythai fights with no use of the elbows, then we must conclude that it is not really muaythai.
