However, several associations have come up with the ‘Muaythai towards the Olympics’ campaign to try their best in pushing muaythai to be accepted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The most important factors are that muaythai must contain the complete characteristics required by the IOC for each sport, and the sport should also have the government’s support.
“When tae-kwan-do was introduced to the Olympic Games, the Korean government supported it highly through funding and cooperation. However, looking at Thailand, many Thai people aren’t even interested in muaythai, so I think it would be hard for muaythai to be accepted into the Olympics. Nevertheless, we just need to try our best to make muaythai fulfill the requirements of the IOC regulations.”
