The 6th of February has been officially declared Muaythai Day, held in honour of the historic King Sanphet VIII (also known as “Phra Chao Suea” the “Tiger King”), to mark his coronation day in 1702.

In 2013, February 6th will be the historical inauguration of celebrations world wide, and also by the Royal Thai government. A festival will be held in Bangkok with the joint cooperation of the World Muaythai Council (WMC), the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA), and under the directive of the Royal Thai government, the Amateur Muaythai Association of Thailand (AMTAT) under Royal Patronage and the City of Bangkok all joining forces to organize this fantastic fight day and world festival.

Many activities and events are being planned to honour this special occasion. Muaythai Day will begin with the Wai Kru Ceremony, in which over 10,000 people will participate, followed by a WMC Super 8 Gala event that evening with a beautiful trophy graciously donated by HM The King of Thailand.

In the following days the IFMA World Cup will take place to showcase great amateur Muaythai talent from around the world. This event will be a qualifier for the 2013 SportAccord World Combat Games, under patronage of the IOC. Over 60 countries are expected to participate in the IFMA World Cup.

Also scheduled to take place during the festival are courses to help further Muaythai related education and skills training: a Muay Boran course and introduction to the 6 different Muaythai styles – Muay Lopburi, Muay Chaiya, Muay Tah Sao, Muay Pak Klang, Muay Korad and Muay Palasueksa; professional and amateur referee and judge courses, Level 1, 2 and 3 Muaythai Coaching Courses and Khan examinations.

Additionally, the Executive Board will have its meeting in Bangkok for the World Muaythai Council, while the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur will also hold its Executive Board and Annual General Meetings. The event will also have a Muaythai Expo and a Muaythai Cultural Pavilion to foster awareness of Muaythai and its culture.
