Open Dubai Amateur Muayhtai Championship 2006

On Friday, December 15, 2006 Le Meridien Mina Seyahi beach resort & marina hosted first Open Dubai Amateur Muayhtai Championship. Dubai Fight Academy organized first in the history of United Arab Emirates amateur muaythai tournament. The main purpose was to let amateur boxers from different muaythai clubs of Dubai compete each other. The competition was arranged in very short time and due to the lack of time was not even advertised in mass media. However the event gathered some muaythai fans as well as tourists staying in Le Meridien Mina Seyahi. Hotel guests first were surprised seeing boxing ring on the beach and groups of seriously looking guys warming up nearby. But after the first fight they got interested and stayed for long watching the competition. The participants were mainly from two biggest Dubai muaythai clubs - Dubai Fight Academy and International Kickboxing Network. Some amateur boxers from Iran also took part in this championship. All amateurs were provided with quality boxing equipment, which was specially bought in Thailand by the sponsor - Creative Concepts real estate. 27 participants competed in 7 weight categories. Abdulla from Rashidia club won in lightweight division (60 kg). In light welterweight category (63.5 kg) judges decided that two boxers deserve gold medals - Sarwar Nazari and Mohsen Faraj, both fighters represent International Kickboxing Network club. In welterweight (67 kg) first place won Najmeddin Al Haddad. In light middleweight (71 kg) won Malik Omarov from Dubai Fight Academy club. Ghulam Hussaini from International Kickboxing Network club took gold medal in middleweight (75 kg). Daniel Lexander from Club Mina became champion among light heavyweights (81 kg). Anton from Dubai Fight Academy club dominated in super heavyweight division (over 91 kg). Dubai Fight Academy officials - Mohhamed Abbas Ahmed, Vladimir Burdun, and International Kickboxing Network president Abdallah Ghchazimi awarded the winners with medals. Open Dubai Amateur Muayhtai Championship 2006 was just a beginning of regular muayhtai championships and cups, which Dubai Fight Academy plans to promote in Dubai.
