Muaythai updates with Pong Lumphang, March 2011

22.03.2011
Muaythai updates with Pong Lumphang, March 2011Hello to all boxing fans, this week I have many updates for all of you as always in this weekly column "Lud Fah with Pong Lampang". The updates include both the local and international boxing news for 10 March 2011.

Muaythai is known and is liked by both Thais and foreigners. Last week, there were 3 French boxers who came to box against Thai fighters for the fans to see live on Channel 3. The two brothers, Antoine and Leo Sengboxing, showed their outstanding Muaythai skills to fight against the Thai boxers. The results are that Antoine lost to Nopparat Kiatkumtorn and Leo defeated Singhdang Kiatvichit.

Last Sunday on Channel 7, Daniel Alamoos proved his excellent Muaythai skills by defeating Apisakd K.T. Gym. We suggest you remember the names of those 3 French fighters because they are more likely to compete in many more exciting competitions in the future.

When asked about the other nation’s boxers who have the most similar Muaythai style to the Thai boxers from the past until now, the answer is the French since the time of Danny Bill, Stephan Nikiema Gym, Jean Starbosky, Farik Varum, or the present Champ from Thai Fight, Fabio Pinca.

This should not be any surprise for the Thai fans because muaythai is very well known in France and very popular. In March, there are about 13 programs that are promoted on the Muaythai TV website of France. In addition, there are 4 more programs scheduled for April. At present, there are many French boxers who come to Thailand to practice and learn muaythai at the boxing camps all over Thailand.

As for the muaythai in Thailand, let’s get started with the memorial ceremony for Nai Kanom Thom that will be on March 17, 2011 in Ratchaburi province. The matches are organized by Sri Muang Singhsuanngen staffs, who had arranged the matches in the King Naresuan event in Suphanburi.

After that on March 25, 2011, Petchyindee is arranging the Toyota boxing marathon (70 kilograms). This year, the old champs, Akepracha Meenayothin and Petchmankong Kaiyanghadao Gym, are the main stars. The other 6 foreign boxers include the Iranian, Vahid Rosani, who was positioned second last year; Andy Roenger from Germany (Champ of the 4 men Tournament program); Stephen Michael from Scotland; Michael Correy from America; Yasin Dakrim from Algeria; and Scott Jeffrey Lennon from Australia. The scheduled date for the press conference of this program was on March 16, 2011 at Thai Army Club.

Also on this Sunday 27 March, 2011, the Black warrior Korkiat program in Petchburi province arranged by the Korkiat group will include the main match between Chanachai Kaewsamrit (the champion of Wick Air Rajjadumnern) and Mustafa Abdulahim, the Iranian who knocked out Panom TopKingBoxing and who has fought with Samranchai 96 Peenang.

For people who believe that in Thailand muaythai is only about gambling, please reconsider because we have a lot of exciting programs such as Muaythai World and Muaythai international for audiences to see throughout the whole year. Even the programs from Lumphini and Rajjadumnern stadiums in which Thai boxers are fight against foreigners still provide plenty of real muaythai excitement for the crowds.

Last Friday, the staff from Thai Fight brought the Thai boxers to Cannes to shoot the poster for the Thai Fight program this year. It was also announced that the final match and the third rank match for the Izuzu Cup will be taking place in France. As a result, Kem Sitsongpeenong, Nopparat Kiatkumtorn, Dernchonlek Sorsor Niyom and Prakaisaeng Petchpergus will have their photos taken with Buakao, Yodsaenklai and Saiyok too. The press conference for this program is rumored to be scheduled for a government residence in France.

Nonsai Sor Saenyakorn is very famous in Germany, despite him not being that well-known in Thailand. On April 2, 2011, he will compete for the championship of WPMF (165 pounds) in Brest, France. If he is able to win this championship, it is rumored that Shootboxing of Japan is interested in having him compete again in June. If he is able to maintain good form, he will also have a chance to be entered into another tournament at the end of the year once again too.

Akeubon Por Muanubon from Blackdragon Gym has a campaign to organize Muaythai once again in Switzerland this year. The scheduled date is on the 1st of October, 2011 in Lausanne (the city where His Majesty the King was born), Switzerland. The Thai boxers who will attend the program and fight against the European side are more likely going to be from the selection of Sukatad Pumpanmuang.

Plug from Windysport is really on fire and is actually going international. He is a prodigy of Petchyindee and on this coming 20 April, 2011, he will be flying to Japan to fight against Yosuke B Gym (43-46 kilograms). After that he will be returning to Thailand where Huamoo Phuket is already preparing a pin weight championship match against Viddhayalek Sor Veerapol. Recently the committee of Thai boxing has decided to add a 100-pound championship to respond to the small boxers who are interested in competing for a championship title too.
