Hello to all Muaythai fans! Here I have many updates for all of you in the weekly column with me, Pong Lumphang, in Lud Fah Muaythai.
Let’s start the column with some updates from outside the ring. Even though it’s already summer in Thailand, we are still getting some rain, not to mention cold weather all over Thailand even in Bangkok. In the south, there have been a number of deaths caused by floods and mudslides. And as for the cold, Isarn especially is experiencing extremely unseasonal weather. March should be extremely hot, but in Amnajjaroen, the temperature has dropped to 13-14 Celsius.
Back to muaythai and Muaythai World was broadcast live on 2 channels. On Channel 7, Aekpracha Meenayothin won the title in the Toyota Marathon program for the second time. As for Petchburi, the Korkiat Group arranged “Muaythai World 9 Nations” which impressed a lot of people from Petchburi because the boxing between the Thais and the foreigners was very exciting.
Sia Koh Korkiat Panichyarom organised everything and again on April 10, the Korkiat Group will host the “Muaythai World Maenamkhong M-1” program in Ubonrajjathani province (Kongjiam district). The program will consist of a mix of Laotian boxing, Burmese boxing, Cambodian boxing and Chinese boxing versus the original Muaythai style.
This will be broadcast live on Channel 9 from 12:00 to 13:30 o’clock. This program is not to be missed, so better set a reminder; the program will take place 10 days before the upcoming Songkran day.
After Maenamkong (Khong River), we progress to Maenammei (Mei River) in Tak province. Surasak Mookpradub will arrange the bouts between the Thai boxers and fighters from the local Mong tribe from 11 to 14 April which will be broadcast live on Channel 5.
The press conference is said to be announced soon. Fans who like furious and hardcore fights should not miss this program!
After moving the live broadcast from True Visions to Rangsit Muaythai International Arena in Pratumthani of Amnuay Ketbumrung, the big boss, Vimol Kaewchavidee, has a big project to hold the live broadcast outdoors in response to the requests of many sponsors.
As for the partnership project with Suppakrit Jianwaranon, the eldest son of CP, the Muaythai School at Super Brand Mall to promote and support Thai boxing in Shanghai is expected to be fully constructed approximately within this year for sure.
In other news, it is now confirmed that “Thai Fight” will take place this year at Riviera Beach in Cannes, France on 14 May. The staff have already confirmed the dates for the event will be from 10 to 15 May with no changes. At a press conference on March 31, the “Thai Fight” staff also presented the boxers who will participate in this competition, including Buakaw Por Pramuk, Yodsanklai Fairtex, Saiyok Windy Sport Pumpanmuang, Sudsakorn Sor Klinmee and Petchassawin. The boxers and the staff were also presented to MPs including the prime minister at government house which is considered to be an honor for Thai boxing to be recognized in such a way.
Now, I have to say a big thanks to the big boss of Thai Fight, “Big Mod” Nopporn Wanin who gave me the opportunity to join the staff of Thai Fight and attend the press conference at government house as well as going to Cannes in France too! Big Mod also mentioned that Thai Fight at this year’s Cannes Film Festival will not collect any money and will also provide live broadcasts for Thailand too.
In total, Big Mod has invested 20 million Baht in this event, but he is willing to pay it so that Muaythai will be known throughout the world. Also especially for next year, Thai Fight will provide 30 programs from all over the world to raise the performing fee for the Thai boxers to be regarded as international stars.
Moving on to Muaythai abroad, in an event rescheduled from April 2, “The Bodyguard” Nonsai Sor Sanyakorn will compete in a World Muaythai Association (75 kilograms) championship fight and Aekpol Polchareon will compete in a 65 kilogram program in Brest, France on April 6.
Saenchai ChinbiMuaythai will fight against Liam Harrison in Yorkshire, England and Alien Lakhai Jitmuangnon will travel to Cambodia to fight in a 51 kilogram program. You can get the updates of these programs through next week’s column with me, Pong Lumphang!
