Shamil Abdurahimov: “I expected more from Marcos Oliveira.”

At last we have managed to have a talk with Shamil Abdurahimov after his brilliant victory over Marcos Oliveira at ADFC Grand Prix in the open weight. At the moment the fighter is in Moscow with his coach. They have some scheduled interviews and filming for sports programs. On Wednesday a latter-day ADFC Champion will return to Makhachkala.
- Shamil, we congratulate you one more time on this wonderful victory! What did you feel before coming to the ring for your final fight of Grand Prix?
- My adrenaline maxed out. I wanted to finish the deal that was started last year in May. I hoped for the best. God bless I survived acclimatization well. The weather was good – 25 degrees above zero. I spent a five days period of time before the tournament training.
- Did you meet Marcos Oliveira before the fight?
- No, we didn`t see each other. Organizers did everything possible in making training schedule of every fighter to exclude the opportunity of fighters meetings. Our first meeting was at weigh-in and a press conference before the fights. Even pre-match interviews with fighters were given by Mass Media separately from each other.
- Were you friendly with Oliveira at the press-conference?
- It was as usual. He said he would not present me a victory and that the native walls would help him. But at that moment I was sitting and thinking: “Dream, but it is useless.” Then I said the same to Marcos. But now it doesn`t matter what he had said because I won!
- Shamil, what can you say about Oliveira as a fighter after the fight?
- I had known enough much about him before the fight. Marcos is an unexpected fighter. I knew that he would be able to perform legs hold but my coach and I worked out and learned many holds to be ready for everything in the fight vs. Oliveira. I managed to make my opponent play my game.
I don`t want to offend my opponent but I expected more of him. I was ready to push myself to the limit but it wasn`t necessary. I cannot say that the fight was very trying.
- You have won a lot of money. Do you feel yourself as a millionaire?
- I am not a millionaire according to the UAE yardstick (laughing). I didn`t think about money before the fight. The most important for me was to get the belt of the first ADFC Champion. But when I was brought a prize money cheque, I didn`t ignore it (laughing).
- You didn`t leave Abu-Dhabi right after the fight. What were you doing for 2 days there?
- Frankly speaking my hand was injured during the fight. But it was not a problem for me to give my autographs. I couldn`t refuse children and adults who came to me with enthusiastic eyes and wanted to get my autograph. It was pleasure and not a hard work for me to sign posters for those who supported me.
When boom became a little lower we went to the city, we walked and watched beautiful local landscape.
- Do your near and dear phone you? They are waiting for your returning, aren`t they?
- My phone is hot! I`m waited very much. I am dreaming about rest with friends and relatives.
- We would like to ask you about how will you spend the prize money?
- I have ideas but I will not tell you about them.
- What are your further plans? When will you have the next fight?
- I cannot tell you about this exactly. I was notified by ADFC organizers to be ready to defend the belt by July. The tournament will also be held in Abu-Dhabi. But I haven`t known details of the future tournament yet.
