Review of Dubai Fight Academy trip to K1 KHAN Korea ? July 2007

Smooth as silk was journey of Dubai Fight Academy Team to Korea, sponsored by Thai Airways . On July 21st two Muaythai boxers from Dubai took part in kickboxing competition in Korea called K-1 Khan Against the World. From the very beginning Dubai fighters were considered to be underdogs. But what happened on July 21st put Dubai on the martial arts map. Najmeddin Al Haddad with professional record of three fights, three wins, was thought to be the victim in his fight against Korean superstar - Cheon Jae Hee who has had about 40 professional bouts. Dubai was never considered to be powerhouse of kickboxing, so no one expected that strong team would come from that region. But the situation with martial arts in United Arab Emirates has changed recently, since Dubai Fight Academy started Muaythai gym and began promoting “War on the Shore” – series of professional Muaythai events in which resident athletes fight with fighters from all over the world.

K-1 Khan Korea was organized in Seoul at Jang Chung Gymnasium. Around four thousand people packed the venue. Opening fight was Najmeddin Al Haddad (Dubai) vs Korean fighter - Chun Jae Hee. Najmeddin whose background is karate was light on his feet but his opponent managed to land some solid punches during the first round. Further in second round Chun Jae Hee was moving forward steadily putting more pressure on Najmeddin, trying to catch him in the corner with punches. But Najmeddin had no fear and in his corner coach Magomed Suleymanov had no doubt in his student. After checking his opponent in and out, in round three Najmeddin delivered precise spinning kick right to the head of his opponent. Cheon Jae Hee fell down like timber, but managed to get up before referee counted “eight”. The four thousand crowd in Jang Chung Gymnasium cheered the magnificent kick. Korean tried to continue fighting but this time strong punches put him down again and referee stops the bout.

Another Dubai Athlete – Ahmed Saadi won his bout against Jae Sik Choi. Ahmed’s heavy right punch floored his opponent two times during the first round. And although Jae Sik Choi recovered and made a lot of troubles for Ahmed Saadi in second and third round, on the completion of third round judges gave victory to Tunisian.

Apart from fighters from Dubai whose victories surprised everyone who is involved in the field of kickboxing, there were a lot of good fights between top world fighters. Living legend - John Wayne Parr made his return on the ring defeating Sinbi Taewoong . K-1 MAX finalist Albert Kraus knocked out Korean fighter K.Max with well-timed right high kick. K-1 MAX newly born star - Artur Kishenko literally destroyed his opponent Lim Chi Bin in second round with powerful lowkicks. Vuyusile Colossa in three rounds outboxed Choi Jae Mun. Sirimongkol Singwangcha won by points Choi Jong Yun, who was glad that he survived three rounds. The results of most of these were easy to predict, except fight of Virgil Kalakoda against Kim Se Gi. The Korean underdog came out to be hard to die. In first round former IBF boxing champion Virgil Kalakoda put him down with nasty shots to the body, but Kim Se Gi survived. And in round two he knocked out Virgil with right cross. Virgil went on the canvas twice before referee stopped the contest. That was really sensational outcome of this bout.

Famous kickboxing and Muaythai promoter Ray Matsumura, noticed the sensational performance of Dubai Fight Academy Team in Korea. Now president of Dubai Fight Academy - Vladimir Burdun negotiates with Matsumura about bringing more Dubai fighters to fight on World biggest martial arts events, such as - K-1 Max and K-1 HEROES . Also Dubai Fight Academy established business relations with Thai sport manager Sayan Chansiri who managers such Thai fighters as Sirimongkol Singwangcha and Wanlop Kitiasak. But there will be no victorious trip of Dubai fighters to Seoul without support of Thai Airlines represented in Dubai by its General Manager Mr. Manan. Mr. Manan first of all believed in abilities of fighters from Dubai Fight Academy. Dubai Fight Academy gym is thankful to Thai Airways for making this trip to Korea happen and for the chance to compete and win in Korea.
