Dr. Sakchai also revealed that the popularity of muaythai abroad is increasing. Americans now rank muaythai in second place, equal with wrestling. However, the popularity o the sport in the US is still not as high as it could be because the majority of Americans train at muaythai for health and fitness only. Also, in the US, the government does not allow the use of the elbow in muaythai events. Several states have their own officials who oversee muaythai tournaments, but these judges might not be able to judge very well because they do not know the complete rules of muaythai.
